What Is ReplayChess?
Overview
ReplayChess is a free, open-source chess platform built around one idea: chess history should be something you play, not something you watch. You pick a legend, open one of their famous games at its critical position, and try to find the moves they found. Then you play it out for real: against a friend through a private link, a rated opponent from the matchmaking queue, or Stockfish running inside your browser. When the game ends you get a move-by-move comparison with the original, so you can see how closely you followed the grandmaster's line and the exact move where you left it.
Key Features
50+ legends grouped by era, from Morphy and Steinitz through Tal and Fischer to Kasparov and Carlsen, each with playable famous positions. A 3,600-entry ECO openings encyclopedia (A00 to E99) with moves, FEN and a diagram, every line playable from its resulting position. Real-time multiplayer with clocks, rating-based matchmaking, private challenge links that need no account to accept, and tournaments. Stockfish compiled to WebAssembly at four strengths up to roughly 2200. A post-game report with match rate, divergence marker and practice mode. Installs as a PWA on phones and desktops.
Use Cases
Chess fans who pause videos to find the move and want to finish the game. Club players practising the middlegames their repertoire produces. Coaches handing a student one historical position and reviewing the divergence report. Developers reading an open-source real-time multiplayer app in Next.js.
