Overview
Explore the world's largest library of film stills for inspiration, learning, and making movies faster.
FrameThrower is a film-still reference library built for people who work in film and advertising. Every frame of thousands of films is indexed by what it actually looks like — lighting key, lens character, shot size, colour grade, time of day, who is in the shot — so you can search the way you'd describe a shot out loud instead of guessing at keywords.
Search "a lone figure in neon rain" and get frames that look like that, not frames tagged with those words. Save what you find to a lookbook, export it as a PDF, or pull the whole board down as a zip.
It's also an API. Eleven REST endpoints, an MCP server for Claude and ChatGPT, an npm SDK, and a ComfyUI node that drops a frame straight onto your canvas with a ready-made depth map. Builders use it to give agents and image pipelines real cinematographic reference instead of scraped screenshots.
Built by senior filmmakers and ads creatives — people who have shot, cut and pitched for a living.
Key Features
Use natural-language search to describe the shot you need. Explore cinematographic references by lighting, lens character, shot size, colour grade, time of day and the people in the frame. Organize selected frames into lookbooks, export a board as a PDF for a pitch, or download the board as a ZIP.
Use Cases
Filmmakers and advertising creatives can collect visual references for treatments, pitches and production planning. Directors and cinematographers can use the library to communicate a lighting or composition idea. Students can study frames while learning visual storytelling. Developers can bring real film reference into agents and image pipelines through the REST API, MCP server, npm SDK and ComfyUI node.
